PRAYER's
RUG by Baloch is a rug woven by the Baloch tribe in Afghanistan.
The Baloch people, who were once shepherds and nomads, saw an increasing number of groups settle or semi-settle after the 1920s-1930s. In the carpet world, especially in Afghanistan,
to distinguish between sedentary and nomadic production, nomadic Baloch were sometimes called Mardari, meaning nomad, as their name suggests.
This piece is also said to have been woven by nomadic Baloch, and perhaps due to a difference in looms, it gives the impression of being a little warmer and softer than sedentary weaves.
The design features a mihrab, a concave shape formerly used in prayer rugs. This particular piece follows the design of a rug with a lovely story, "Dukhtare Qazi" (The Judge's Daughter), woven in the mid-19th century.
The mihrab is now a popular design in Europe, also gaining popularity for home decor. This is an excellent item, highly regarded not only for its sentiment
but also for its quality as an item.
This is a very atmospheric piece with a faded look, perfect for a grand entrance or blending in beautifully by a sun-drenched window.
