The cover of "A Midsummer Night's Dream (Yoru-gaku)," violin score No. 579, published by Senoo Music Publishing, was designed by Yumeji Takehisa, who gained nationwide popularity for his bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women).
This is a later work among the Senoo scores, featuring a more refined, modern, and abstract design.
【About Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934)】Yumeji Takehisa was a Japanese painter and poet. His real name was Mojiro Takehisa. He left behind numerous bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), and his lyrical works, known as "Yumeji-style beauties," made him a representative painter of the Taisho Romanticism era, earning him titles such as "Ukiyo-e artist of Taisho." He also illustrated children's magazines and poetic essays.
【Senoo Scores】A series of sheet music, primarily for songs, published by Senoo Music Publishing, founded by Koyo (Kojiro) Senoo from the Taisho to early Showa periods. Many of these covers were designed by Yumeji Takehisa, which was one of the reasons for the emergence of Yumeji fans. Other prominent artists of the time, such as Hisui Sugiura, Kuro Okada, and Shiro Horiuchi, also contributed illustrations. The rabbit mark designed by Yumeji was adopted as the series mark for Senoo Scores.
