These carpets are inspired by tribal rugs, especially Turkmen carpets, and are woven in the Lahore region in northwestern Pakistan.
They are popular for their rich color variations not seen in tribal carpets. Most of them are thin but tightly woven, so they are lightweight yet durable and easy to handle. Many of them have short pile and a glossy texture, making them versatile carpets that can be used regardless of the season.
Originally they were called "ensi" and were hung in pairs at the entrance to Turkmen tents as a talisman.
